Bethesda's Todd Howard spoke with Lex Fridman about a
variety of hot-button issues, such as the company's acquisition by Microsoft,
The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, the Indiana Jones video game, and much more.
Along with discussing video games, Howard also discusses more intimate topics
including his daily routine, advice for young people, and the purpose of life.
According to Howard, one of the difficulties in creating The Elder Scrolls 6 as a game that could be enjoyable and playable for the next ten years or more. According to Howard, one of Bethesda's most popular games is still Skyrim from 2011, and he anticipates that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be played for the next ten or two decades. According to Howard, the Indiana Jones game being created by Machine Games will be a mash-up of unclassifiable genres.
Howard remarked on the Bethesda to Microsoft merger: "It's been fantastic, I really do mean that. Xbox and Microsoft have an internal culture that is distinct from the external culture."
Howard pondered the question of what the point of life was for a long moment. He eventually responded to Fridman by saying that he could instead provide an explanation for his motivation.
The capacity to not make many assumptions and to be interested about the world around you, he stated. "It differs from just wanting to know everything. But what drives human behavior? What are they feeling? Their method of love The axiom that "love is the purpose of life" may be overused."
Confucius was another figure who was quoted by Howard. According to him, "everybody has two lives, and the second one starts when you realize there is only one,"
If you have the time, it's well worth watching or listening to the entire interview.
Redfall, a video game created by Arkane Austin, will be the next project for Howard and Bethesda. Starfield, the following title from Bethesda Game Studios, is scheduled for release in the first half of 2023.
